Rediscovering Your God-Given Purpose in Challenging Seasons

Your small steps of obedience today are part of God’s big plan for your life.
Feeling stuck, unsure of where to turn, and questioning whether your life still holds meaning is a place many of us have been. Rediscovering your purpose often begins in the most challenging seasons of life. That season began for me after my divorce. I found myself navigating a new reality—learning how to live single again and rebuilding my life step by step.
I was thrust into a season of growth and self-discovery. It hasn’t been easy, but with God, all things are possible. One of the most important lessons I’m learning is to honor what I truly want, even if it requires saying no to the well-meaning advice of others.
Lessons from Ruth: Choosing Faith Over Fear
Feeling like your resources are running dry or that you’re standing at a crossroad can leave you wondering if it’s even possible to move forward.
Ruth, a widow in a foreign land, faced a similar challenge. She made the bold decision to stay with her mother-in-law Naomi, saying, “Where you go, I will go, and where you stay, I will stay” (Ruth 1:16). Ruth chose faith over fear, trusting God to lead her even when the path seemed uncertain. Her step of faith—leaving behind the familiar in her homeland and following Naomi to Bethlehem—opened a door to a greater purpose. That decision ultimately placed her in the lineage of Jesus.
Faith often requires action even when you don’t see the whole picture. Taking that step of faith over fear resonates deeply with me. When my resources dried up after my divorce, I needed to trust that God would provide for me. It was a huge leap of faith, but day by day, God showed me that He is my provider. I’m not perfect in my actions but I’m learning to trust Him fully, even when the future seems uncertain. Those daily acts of faith strengthens my resolve and opens doors to a purpose-filled life.
Small Beginnings, Big Impact: How God Guides Your Steps
Sometimes, it’s the smallest shifts that lead to the biggest transformations. Feeling overwhelmed by everything that seemed broken in my life, I realized that starting small wasn’t just okay—it was necessary.
Zechariah 4:10 reminds us, “Do not despise these small beginnings, for the Lord rejoices to see the work begin.” After my divorce, one of the smallest but most impactful beginnings was a shift in mindset: I choose God, and I choose myself. Staying committed to my faith in Jesus Christ as my Lord and Savior helped me take God-centered actions for my life instead of spiraling out of control.
When everything feels too big to tackle, remember that each small step of obedience matters. It could be waking up with a prayer of gratitude, taking time to care for yourself, or saying no to something that doesn’t serve God’s purpose for your life. Those small beginnings are what God uses to set the stage for greater things.
That decision to stay rooted in faith allowed me to rediscover purpose one step at a time:
Prioritizing what was best for myself
Saying yes to opportunities that aligned with my heart
Trusting God to guide me forward
Taking Action: Steps to Rediscover Your Purpose Today
